Are you planning sailing off-shore or even circumnavigating? Wauquiez Pretoriens are strong, stiff and fast! They are recognised to be quality blue-water vessels built in France to a Holman & Pye design. They have many similarities to the contemporary Oyster 36 also designed by H&P.
Amari's hull is solid GRP with structural grid members moulded in for extra strength. No chance of seeing daylight through that lot! The ballast is external lead secured to the stub with 1 1/4'' keel bolts. The standing rigging (renewed 2005) and chainplates seem massive compared with some newer vessels. Her deep rudder is skeg protected and her mast keel mounted.
Amari has a generous sail area (125% rig, genoa 41 sq.m) and is stiff in a breeze - we never have the lee rail under. She sails well under main or genoa alone and heaves-to easily. She does not slam upwind.
As a testament to her strength she has 3/4 circumnavigated the globe under her first owners and is keen to complete the circuit! As the saying goes: for circumnavigation it is strength not size that matters!
She was surveyed in 2005. No osmosis was found in the hull but she was given a precautionary epoxy. Mild osmosis in the rudder was treated.
A new 40 hp 4-cylinder Volvo D2-40 was fitted in 2007. Unlike most Pretoriens Amari has the preferred shaft drive and Volvo folding propellor.
Down below one is struck by an abundance of mellow teak joinery. The saloon was re-upholstered in 2008.
'Amari' has given us five years of excellent cruising along the Turkish Aegean coast and Dodecanese islands. She is comfortable and always feels safe. She has been regularly updated and wintered ashore.

.Description
‘Maid of Wyven’ is a heavily constructed cutter rigged Bermudan sloop with generous proportions down below, converted from a gaff cutter in the 70’s. Her lines where taken from a 1920’s Thames Bawley yacht and built in 1950 by a local family on the quay at Wivenhoe, Essex using timbers and ship wrights from a local yard. She is unique, with classic lines, excellent sea keeping and a deep sheltered cockpit with unusual swept up cuddy. The main sail is rolled in an aluminum foil in a housing on the wooden mast and custom made by Sailspar of Brightlingsea. The head sails and mainsail furling lines all lead back to the cockpit. The first owners sailed her out of Wivenhoe for forty years. Her second owners took her to the Caribbean and back and we have owned her for ten years, living aboard for six years while cruising in the Baltic and Mediterranean. We have now changed our life style, returning to the UK and are looking for new owners who enjoy the esthetics of a classic wooden boat.

Accommodation
6 berths in four compartments, all mahogany bulkheads, berths and cupboards. Full head room to beyond mast then stooping.
Forepeak 2 berths, storage below, anchor locker forward, warp storage above, fore hatch..
Amidships has pilot berth to port, storage below, hatch above and heads to starboard.
Heads compartment with Lavac toilet, holding tank, ceramic shower tray under floor, shower, china basin, 240v emersion heater, wet clothes hanging rail and hatch above.
Saloon U shaped seating for four, can get six round table. Narrow berth on settee, large book shelf to port, substantial built- in sideboard to starboard with fridge let in, navigation position and instruments, radio and CD player and central hatch above, fan.
Double cabin aft of saloon on port side with storage below and hanging locker, access to engine, main bilge sump below and hatch above, fan.
Galley opposite cabin with sink, drainer and work surface, Taylors 2 burner stove, grill and oven, storage and gas solenoid switch; on to companion way off set to starboard, hatch above.
Cockpit with instruments under cuddy, seat under cuddy, seating round and wheel steering, teak plank sole with access to engine.
